The Sounds of Swing Are Once Again Hugely Popular... The irresistible sound of the standard 17 piece big band ensemble in the 1930’s and 1940’s made the likes of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and many others famous. The Oz Big Band takes this great ensemble of 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and 4 rhythm section and adds three male & female vocalists (so that makes 20 all up) to provide a sound that has once again become hugely popular. Perth’s Most Popular and Versatile “Full” Big Band... The band was originally formed in 1985 but a refocus in recent years has resulted in the Oz Big Band fast becoming one of Perth’s most popular and versatile big bands. Today the band consists of a mix of enthusiastic pro and semi-pro musicians (check out our player profiles) all of whom enjoy entertaining. Don’t settle for a 8, 10 or even 12 piece “big band” – anything less than the sound of a full Big Band ensemble just isn’t the same. Suited to Many Occasions… From formal evening dinner dances, corporate balls, weddings and conventions to relaxed afternoon concerts, jazz clubs, festivals, wineries and outdoor functions, the band is suited to many occasions. Perfect for that Swinging 30’s theme night, we have performed in most of Perth’s major hotels. We are also popular with councils and a number of dance groups around Perth. We can even put you in touch with the swing dance groups that are fast gaining in popularity for the “younger set” around Perth. In addition to its various performances, the band rehearses every Thursday evening in Mount Lawley. Huge Repertoire with Many of Your Favourites… The group has a huge repertoire (over 350 charts or 25 hours of non-stop music) and can play your favourite Jazz, Swing, Blues, Latin, Rock and Pop charts from the 20s to today. This means the band can tailor make its performance to suit just about any function with music that is bound to get the toes tapping and the heels dancing.
